About the Author

Robert E. Howard (1906–1936) was an American writer from the dusty plains of Texas who, in a career of barely a dozen years, became one of the founding fathers of modern fantasy and the undisputed creator of the sword-and-sorcery genre. Writing at a furious pace for the pulp magazines of the 1920s and 1930s — above all the legendary Weird Tales — he conjured a gallery of unforgettable heroes, including Conan the Cimmerian, King Kull of Atlantis, the Puritan avenger Solomon Kane, and the Pictish chieftain Bran Mak Morn, along with a torrent of horror, historical adventure, boxing, and western tales. His prose is muscular, vivid, and drenched in blood and thunder, evoking vanished ages where barbarism and civilization clash beneath brooding skies.
