About the Author

Miguel de Cervantes (1547–1616) was a Spanish novelist, poet and playwright, considered the greatest figure of Hispanic literature and one of the summits of universal literature. A soldier in the battle of Lepanto, where he lost the use of his left hand, and held captive for five years in Algiers, he transformed a life marked by adventure and misfortune into the work that forever changed the course of the narrative: Don Quixote de la Mancha, considered the first modern novel. Also the author of the Exemplary Novels and the Persiles, he died in Madrid in 1616, bequeathing to the world an ironic, very humane and eternal voice.
